  We were approached by a shipping company based in Mumbai, India to whom we have been extending on site crankshaft grinding and engine repair services for the last 30 years.

  They approached us for the problem in the crankshaft of YANMAR Diesel Engine model 6N18AL-DV.

  ACTION TAKEN BY RA POWER SOLUTIONS FOR REPAIR OF CRANKSHAFT OF YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE 6N18AL-DV:-

  • Two technicians with onsite crankshaft grinding machine boarded the vessel and the crankshaft was subject to inspection.
  • All the six crankpins were subject to calibration for taper and ovality.

  THE DIMENSIONS WERE CHECKED AS PER  RA POWER SOLUTIONS PROTOCOL WHICH IS MENTIONED BELOW:-

  • All the crankpins were also subject to inspection of hardness and the hardness was observed between 590 to 650 on HB scale.
  • The crank pins were also subject to MPI test for crack detection and no cracks were observed.
  • Deflection of the crankshaft was checked and was observed within limits.

  SUCCESSFUL REPAIR OF CRANKSHAFT OF YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE 6N18AL-DV:-

  • Considering the observation of higher ovality ranging from 0.16 to 0.22 mm, it was decided to undertake the grinding of all crank pins.
  • All the crankpins were undersized by 0.40 mm as per the manufacturer recommendation and final size was maintained between 144.58 to 144.60 mm with ovality of maximum 0.02 mm.

  THE FINAL DIMENSIONS MAINTAINED AFTER GRINDING ARE MENTIONED BELOW:-

  The repair of the crankshaft having a diameter of 145 mm and bearing width of only 65 mm was executed due to availability of necessary tooling with us.

  The small crankpin bearing width requires the latest crankshaft grinding equipment which is possessed by us and we have been executing successfully the repair of the crankshaft of YANMAR Diesel Engine 6N18AL-DV and other models having small bearing length all over the world.
